Kath has shown me the fun side to money: to not spend every second working for a never-ending goal, to go out and enjoy life, to take a holiday and to create experiences as well as fortunes.

Three years ago, I had a meeting with Kath. She said, ‘Mitch, I am going to give you the same advice as I give my retiree clients. Go out and have fun. You have put in the hard yards, go and enjoy yourself.’ From that moment on, it changed my perspective of money and life. It changed how I focus my time. Instead of making money and wealth, I now create experiences and fortunes. You can’t take money to your grave, but you can take memories and experiences.

Working three different jobs, in three different fields, I was unsure of my end goal and my financial future. With Kath’s help, she focused my direction and allowed me to free my time, while I was still creating a grounding financial future for myself. For that I am extremely grateful.

We started considering retirement about two years before we ended up following through with it. Getting financial advice is critical to every person’s future. The earlier you start in getting sound advice the better. We started in our mid-career lives. We sought advice on how we could retire at 55.

The advice we were given was sound and a private super fund opened. In line with this, other advice was given with good intent but it did result in us being involved in an ATO case that eventually cost us substantially.

On moving to Brisbane we needed to seek a way to still achieve our dream of retirement. We were advised to talk to Goals & Dreams at Chermside.

They have invited us to several specific market specialists updates and provided a positive outlook even though it has been a difficult time for all with investments. I am not aware of any of my personal friends who have had the same level of care from their advisors. What is most important to us is the relationship and honesty and genuine care that we receive.

The Buck stops… well, it’s a learning curve! 9 to 5, safe salaries and a predictable future were never a past life option with me. In the Far East and single, I paid low taxes and worked impossibly long and stimulating hours. In the UK and married, I shuddered at the percentage differences.

Widowed, now business-and-job-less, I opted for a new life in Australia, became a home owner and gave up on offshore finances.
